Bouncy Castle Insurance?

One of a number of questions that we are continually asked about is Insurance for bouncy castle hire companies. There are two types that need priority consideration. One is Employers Liability Insurance (ELI) and the other is Public Liability Insurance (PLI).
In respect of ELI it is a legal requirement for any company that uses staff to have this. There is a myth that if you use family/friends that do not get paid a bouncy castle hire company would not require this. This is completely false. If you use any person to assist in your business you require ELI whether they are paid or not.
PLI is a different matter. There is no legal requirement for bouncy castle hire companies to carry PLI. Another misconstrued idea is that if you hire from a bouncy castle company then their PLI would cover the Hiree should an incident occur. This is completely untrue and bouncy castle hire companies should be extremely careful if they include terms like 'Fully Insured' in their advertising. This is frowned on by most insurers. Those hiring in bouncy castles and undertaking to supervising themselves will not be covered by a bouncy castle hire companies PLI insurance. If the bouncy castle hire company provides a supervisor then their insurance will cover the bouncy castle.
